Finally decoded, Sarah is able to play outdoors again

Meet Sarah. She’s 6 1/2 years old and she has always been susceptible to infections, with long periods of coughing. Since school started, the problem has been worse and she has become irritable and often interrupts class activities with her coughing.

Allergy blood test results showed sensitivity to grass pollen, cat and dog. When added up, these sensitivities pushed her over the symptom threshold.

Sarah's family worked with the doctor and decided to remove the cat from the bedroom and Sarah was taught to use a rescue inhaler whenever necessary. As preventive treatment, an inhalant steroid was prescribed.

By reducing exposure to the cat and taking the appropriate medication, Sarah’s symptoms are well under control and she is most often under her symptom threshold.
